Is the mostly forgotten debut album by one of the future’s biggest rappers interesting ?

1996 was the first year worth living, existing before was simply a waiting room. Coming to be later was missing the golden moment, the culmination of centuries needed to create the combination of atoms required to come up with something special and someone that could change the world. Sadly, my mother gave into the bottle while gestating and I came out instead of a world changer, cheers! For my album I thought about many options, I thought it was a great chance to discover something new for myself that was worthwhile.

Having represented Portugal in the Eurovision song contest of 1991, Dulce Pontes' unquestionable singing talent was already well established within Portugal’s cultural consciousness. Lusitana Paixão was a sappy, trite and vapid national pride ballad, but this was enough to secure an 8th place finish. Her outstanding vocal command notwithstanding, she was still lacking individuality, both personally and artistically. Her debut disc, which was filled with very well sung adult contemporary slop but her sophomore attempted something different altogether.

One recurrent failure in my theory of mind of others is how those who don’t like weird music think of their taste. “Oh boy, can’t wait to find more stuff that sounds exactly like what I’ve already heard.” Maybe it’s like action movie fans never tire of exploding gibs and foley meat punches? Even then, I’m looking for something new and clever in the choreography or design, if I’ve seen it before, it holds less appeal.

It sucks so i like it

Among my favorite albums, Sounds of the Satellites is certainly the most reasonable and perhaps even the best. It has no horrific noises, no dissonance, no 20-minute tracks, no laughable vocals/lyrics, and no Avant-bullshit. It is earwormy, vibey, simple, lush, groovy, placid, and frankly perfect. Which is boring. I normally find joy in art’s imperfections (and therefore humanity). Yet, every time I listen to Sounds I am shocked at how much I end up loving it.
