Here in the land of Austex and spiders, we call them op-shops (which is “opportunity shop”, invented in ye olden days to give an air of respectability to thrifting). The lovely ferdaywife is an avid op-shopper, and so the assignment for #thriftex went to her, with the only instructions being “something you’ve never heard of”. I say, close enough. Originally from Nelson, South Island NZ, in the early 90’s Stanley was in a group called World Gone Wild, playing upbeat The Cure inspired gothpop, and had a few minor hits in Oceania.

Ears Destroyed

There’s a Canadian record store chain called Sunrise Records. They started in the 70s and spread across Canada (especially the English-speaking parts). Like you would expect from a chain record store, most of the stuff they carry is new, label-released stuff, and stuff that doesn’t sell probably gets sent back. In the sleepy suburban town of Coquitlam, British Columbia, where I went to high school and my parents live, there is also one of their chains in every big mall.

Probably not as bad as the usual strawb green

Last weekend I went to the longest-running rummage sale in town, its 99th year running, in hopes of finding something acceptable for this year’s special project. Looking first through the CDs, it was all standard fare: lots of classical, a decent amount of 90s country, maybe some Kenny G, nothing interesting enough except for the box of brand new CDs that was clearly overstock of that guy’s album, but it’s highly doubtful the music itself would be much of anything.

Snyde’s list Honorable Mentions Tropical Fuck Storm - Fairyland Codex Changeling - s/t Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out Völur & Cares - Breathless Spirit Kexelür - Epigrama de un pasado perdido (10) Billy Woods - Golliwog Yeah, of all the rap I could have picked I went with Woods' sinister solo selection. I do think it’s the most cohesive and best ride all the way through.
