Planex explores the ''slam'' tag on bandcamp so you don't have to

I haven’t been back to this dumpster in a while. Gotta hose it out every now and then or the manager of the Burger King next door starts to complain about the smell. It’s been two years since I last polled the state of slam on Bandcamp, and there have been a number of legitimately good slam releases since then. Dehumanizing Itatrain Worship has changed the game with Otakuslam <3 Animecide, the best release of its kind.

A retrospective about non-2023 albums

In 2023, I didn’t delve much into listening to older music due to a notorious yearly project that consumed a significant amount of time (read about it here https://www.interdimensionalvortex.com/posts/community/2023-08-11-compost-a-reflection-on-live-albums-and-the-failing-of-this-year-community-project/). I found myself exploring albums from the reliquary, which was not very fruitful, as you can imagine. Ah 2018, the year I joined a cesspool of bad taste, bad faith, goat lovers linked to Angry Metal Guy known as Metal-Fi. For those unfamiliar with this hellish place, it was a forum where two factions would fight in an endless war of baiting and mocking each other’s tastes. You would have the goat crew that would swear only by the filthiest black metal and would scream in agony the moment they had to listen with something that wasn’t written in 4/4.

A reflection on live albums and the failing of this year community project

When ferday doesn't participate, you know something's wrong

Each year, the vortex’s members are presented with a common activity to take part in and interact with each other. This activity essentially revolves around listening to music in a chosen theme. We had goat and guts, which tackled the birth of black and death metal with their most influential early albums. Or listening to Rolling Stone’s top 500 songs lists (2004 and 2021). Well this year’s goal was to listen to a list of the best or most important 147 live albums ever released from 1953 to 2020.
